Macro Friday

It's time for Macro Friday again.  This week's entry is in honor of yesterday's events...and could alternately be titled, "Dumb Things People Do".  LOL.  Errrr, maybe that should be "one of the dumbest things I've done".

It all started with this here epipen (my Macro Friday entry).
Alex was diagnosed last year with a peanut allergy and we therefore have epipens in the house.  On Thursday, Alex had a peanut challenge and passed.  GREAT NEWS!  However, they told us to feed him peanut butter every day for the next five days and to watch him carefully for a reaction.

Friday we had a new babysitter coming to watch the kids.  I pulled out the practice Epipen to demonstrate how it worked, in case Alex reacted to the peanut butter while I was at work .... only it wasn't the practice pen.  It was the real deal!  I accidentally shot myself in the thumb with the pen.   And it hurt.... a lot... and the needle got stuck in the bone and wouldn't come out... and we had to call for an ambulance.  And my heart was pounding, and the kids were screaming....  I so did not expect to spend my day in the ER.

Apparently it is pretty common for people to accidentally stick themselves with epipens.  What's not as common is getting the needle stuck in the bone.  What's also common is for people to LOSE their finger/thumb if they shoot themselves in that area.  Yikes!  Something about having tiny blood vessels in that area that constrict when injected and cut off blood supply to the surrounding tissues.  I had a hard time believing the doctor that I had done something so serious.  I called my brother (who works in an ER) and he confirmed that getting stuck in the thumb with an epipen can definitely kill the tissue.
I felt so grateful to wake up this morning and see that my thumb was nice and pink.  It hurts like you wouldn't believe, but at least I won't have to figure out how to live without a thumb!!!  I just have to survive three weeks of heavy duty antibiotics!  In the meantime I am learning to hit the spacebar with my left rather than my right hand while typing, and am enjoying lots of couch time while loopy from percoset!  Oh, and becoming acquainted with the throw up bucket.  I don't think my body is liking the Keflex.

All I want for Christmas is.....

It's not the right time of year, but I've been singing "All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth".  Alex lost both of his upper front teeth last week.  I LOVE how kids look at this age... absolutely adorable... the toothless grin and the lisp.  I told Alex I had to have a picture of his missing teeth.  As you can tell from this first picture, he wasn't too happy to obligue.  :)  You can see the big holes though.... and the gorgeous big brown eyes!
Finally got him to laugh.
Alex asked the Tooth Fairy to bring him a "Zum" (webkinz).  Poor kid was disappointed to discover a note from the Tooth Fairy stating that she was really sorry, but she couldn't deliver a Zum to him.  She left him four quarters and told him that he could save his money for one.

Macro Friday - Week 9

It's time again for Macro Friday on Blogging From Bolivia.  We were at a birthday party last night for a two year old little boy, David.  David and Nathan had a blast playing with a wooden train set.  I took plenty of birthday pictures, but also decided to try my hand at some close up pictures of the trains.  The picture above is my entry for MACRO FRIDAY.  The other pictures are just for fun! :)

Macro Friday

I don't blog much, but I do enjoy reading other blogs.  One of the blogs that I read somewhat regularly is Crayon Wrangler.  She posted something called Macro Friday and after one look I was quickly hooked.  I don't have a macro lense, but LOVE macro photography.  I think I'm going to really enjoy participating in Marco Friday at  Blogging From Bolivia.

It was so hard to narrow down which picture to choose.... I settled on this one.  I LOVE tulips and with all the HOT weather we've been having around here, I've been dreaming of Spring and of Fall weather.  Shame on me, I know.  I'm just not a heat and humidity type of gal.  Perfect weather for me - mid 70's, low humidity, and NO bugs!  LOL.
Head on over to Blogging From Bolivia to check out other macro photos.  And, if you have a camera, post a picture and join in the fun.

Paintings by Elizabeth

Elizabeth has been painting up a storm again.  This picture is a favorite of two of her brothers - a "Fourth of July Special" as she calls it.
This is a favorite of both Mommy and Daddy.  We made prints for each of our office walls.
Love the colors in this one.
This is her "sunset" picture.  She says she made a mistake while painting, but it turned into "the best thing ever".  She likes how the sun turned out and likes her "cloud" on the side.
This is a picture she painted for her friend Kylie, who is putting together a "sealife" bedroom.
Elizabeth starts College for Kids on Monday and is super excited.  She will be taking a two week painting class with her friends Kylie and Sarah.

POEM - UNCLE DAVE'S CAT

There once was a man named Dave
Who thought his cat was oh so brave
Pitter patter
Up the ladder
Listen to Uncle Dave rave
Elizabeth wrote this poem for her Uncle Dave on our recent trip to visit them in New York.  Uncle Dave loves his cat and has taught his cat tricks, including climbing up this ladder to the second story window.  The top picture was taken on this trip.  The picture of the cat on the ladder was from a couple of years ago (hence all the leaves on the ground)

Rock Climbing

More pictures from our "Family Date" up on the mountain.  It was so much fun to see our four bambinos having such a good time together walking, climbing, playing games.
The kids LOVE to climb rocks at this particular place.
I was fine with our little guy climbing on little rocks like this.
I was fine with them laying down, taking a break.
Or making beds to lie in on the rocks.
I was fine with them hanging around at the bottom of the rock piles, pretending to climb mountains.
Little guy was happy to be "down below" until everyone decided that it would be more fun to climb UP to the top of the rock piles.
He doesn't like to be left out.  And he thinks he is much older than his three years!
Up and away they went, with Daddy following and Mommy worrying...

Nathan got so high up I think he frightened even himself.
Though he was quickly back to his smiling self!
Alex liked his spot under the tree.
Elizabeth made it to the top.
Andrew was right behind.
Good times had by all.

Silhouette Fun

Last night we had a rare "Family Date" night.  We packed up a picnic supper and headed up to the top of a local mountain.  I was going to leave my camera behind, but my ever encouraging (regarding photography)husband insisted I bring it.  I'm so glad.  The light was perfect for practicing silhouettes.
Daddy and Nathan sharing some time on top of the rocks.  Me - my stomach was twisted in knots with worry about Nathan falling off the cliff.
Jumping up and down.
Father daughter embrace.
The three older munchkins.
Alex - Victory!
Sweet Alex
Alex squatting on the rock.
Elizabeth deep in thought!
Sweet Elizabeth once again!
